Today is ‘D’ day for many pals in areas of Queesnland, Australia where I live. My family and home is safe but sadly many pals are not so lucky.
Just two years ago many of these areas were hit by catastrophic floods, leaving unimaginable destruction, including loss of life for many people and massive animal losses.
One of the worst hit areas of 2011 (Grafton which was wiped off the map in the last flood) is under immediate evacuation of thousands of people, as water levels are said to reach levels never before recorded in the town’s history.
Being rural Grafton has many horses, cattle, dogs and cats who miraculously survived the last floods. Pray they can do it again. *sigh*
Bundaberg has over 2,000 homes under water and Brisbane water levels are rising fast as more homes become flooded. 165,000 homes are currently without power. Throughout Queensland, it’s a dire situation that still has a long way to go. Can’t help but worry about all the animals suffering.
We’ve just had terrible bushfires and wanted rain, but not like this! Hoping by Thankful Thursday I’ll have a happier update on this situation. :=o(
Addendum: a cyclone ht land (one and half hours from where I live) and the low pressure caused by the cyclone has set off this chain of events. In 2011 the floods were called ‘Once In A 100 Year floods.’ How about ‘the every 2 year floods?’ *groan*
