Welcome to our Sunday Selfie project. Meet one of our Ibis birds. We have thousands of Ibis and in our opinion, the Ibis bird is under-appreciated and misjudged. The Ibis has a very important role: it is part of mother nature’s clean up crew.
The Ibis are sometimes called the armpit of birds, partly because they have a very pungent aroma; an overly perfumed pungent smell which I can’t compare to anything else.
A lot of people misunderstand the important role Ibis play and treat them rather badly, because they are scavengers. Sadly, in suburban settings Ibis birds are often seen scavenging through garbage bins, which increases the dislike of them by passers by.
We have rescued many Ibis birds and have a soft spot them.
The above photo is one you won’t see too often: you can really see this bird’s wing bones as he flaps his wings.
Hope you enjoyed meeting our Ibis and hope it might help someone see them in a better light. We all need a clean up crew and without the Ibis, the world would become a rather stinky place. BOL!
