One year ago CokieTheCat journeyed across the Rainbow Bridge and today I’d like to dedicate this day to my dearest friend and soul-brother Cokie. If you see Cokie’s human mom and dad, Kristin and Micheal, they might be acting strong on the outside but underneath their smiles they could really use a hug!
Cokester was a wise nineteen year old with a heart of gold. He was the original cat in pants, who made jeans-for-cats cool. First time I met him, he was surfing a gnarly wave, rocking his denims with his long champagne mane blowing in the breeze.
Cokie enjoyed many hobbies, such as singing operatic arias down the faucet to his wife @JazzyDeCat in London, through to hosting BlogPaws events and interviewing celebrities! He was the original Hollywood dude everyone screamed for. I’ll never forget the day George Clooney turned up on the red carpet in the same suit as Cokie. Poor George, it was the day he learned what rejection meant.
Cokie was used to pawparrazi trailing him everywhere, but they constantly got him mixed up with Daniel Craig. It was hard to tell them apart, especially when Cokie had just come from a BlogPaws event with his tie undone and his shirt open.
He spent many years training his mom Kristin to become the writer and social-media star she is today. Without his guidance, at her feet and steely glare when he’d catch her slacking off, who knows where she would be today? Did I mention Cokie was also Editor and Chief of The Anipal Times? It was Cokie and his mom who gave us our start in writing (and a LOT of help!)
Just because Cokester’s over the Rainbow Bridge doesn’t mean he’s hung up his training duties. No sir. He’s busy training Kristin and Michael’s new kitteh Balzac, which Cokie guided them to because he knew Balzac was just the right kitteh to mend their broken hearts.
Cokie gets a real kick out of seeing them giggling about a cute face Balzac pulls – but of course they can’t see Cokie whispering to Balzac saying things like “tilt more to the left NOW,” as Balzac tilts his face just that little more to the left…to oohhhs andahhhs from his humans.
Seeing his mom and dad smile again is important to Cokie because he didn’t lay around moping, he was full of zest with some very strong opinions about a lot of subjects, including grooming. Reclining in the beautiful Rainbow Bridge gardens, we’ve all heard Cokie tell one of his favourite things to do was having his hair groomed by his mom and dad.
Of course this explains why he’s a regular client at RudyTKat’s Spa & Beautification Salon. Sometimes he hangs out there just to grab a spa after a long training sesion with @PuzTheCat, when together they’ve been whipping the The Lakers into action. You didn’t think those ball skills were all just from the team did you? (I can hear Cokie and Puz laughing.)
Although Cokie is doing fine over the Rainbow Bridge, it was ‘not’ awesome for his grieving parents Kristin and Micheal. They loved Cokie as a fury son for nineteen years. Please reach out to them on this day and maybe the following days too, as it is always a difficult time when our anniversaries roll around. If you haven’t met Balzac yet, hes on twitter: @BalzacTheCat, so take a moment to introduce yourself and say hi.
On behalf of all your dear Rainbow Bridge pals: we send you our love and remind you we are still with you and watching over you always. On the day you unexpectedly find yourself standing on the Rainbow Bridge, you pal will be there waiting to meet you.
We will all be forever families again…not just yet!
*leans out of pram/stroller and waves* “What a view!”
